We had the amazing privilege of hosting the first Annual YFC Charity Golf Day in aid of raising funds for this wonderful NPO in Knysna. It was a calling from above and we felt in our hearts to take our expertise and put it work for God.
The day was off to an interesting start when one of the organisers slammed his index finger in the front door of his house and fractured it – all this on the way out the door in a hurry to get the set up done for the day ahead..
Fortunately, thanks to his partner in crime and the rest of the team from YFC, there were many capable hands on site that jumped in to help set up everything. The first, of what we believe will be a string of successful Annual YFC Charity Golf Days kicked off at Simola Golf & Country Estate with a 2 tee start at 11:00, and the format was better ball stableford. We had a field of 52 golfers, of which one was a lady, that arrived super keen to play this world renowned course course. Service with a smile at registration table where players were met with personalised score cards, personalised golf carts and a goodie bag 🙂
Sotheby’s Knysna had a putting competition on the practice green for the players to and get their strokes & lines warmed up before they hit the tees. Let’s just say for some the weather was acceptable to play in… We will not mention names or refer to putting skills… hihihi
Judging from the arrival of the 4 ball players, there was an awesome vibe and energy among everyone! Some have never played this course prior to this event, others are members at Simola, and what better way to spend a Friday than being among friends and other business owners, playing golf, networking & supporting a good cause!
With 96 bunkers in total throughout the course, the remarks from some of the players led us to believe that there was no shortage of skills being put to the test with their swings and sandys!
The 11th must have been the highlight of the day where players stood a chance to win a R15 000 prize for a hole-in-one – sponsored by The Pro Shop George! This certainly created hype among the field, yet sadly, no one conquered and claimed the esteemed king of the 11th title – so let’s hope for better luck next year 🙂
After a lovely buffet dinner was indulged by a hungry field of golfers, we moved onto the formal proceedings. The prize giving ceremony was opened with a 3min video clip of what YFC does in a nutshell – and that is going out into the community, reaching out for the needy, the helpless and lost, and giving them hope through ministry, youth programs, skills development opportunities and other projects like holiday clubs, home visits, family planning, outreach programs and much much more. With the increasing need to facilitate and assist the Youth of Knysna, these projects need funding, and with many financial doors getting shut on YFC, this golf day is one way for us to raise much needed funds in order for lives to be touched and changed for the better. You cannot possibly imagine how much of an impact each of you made by playing on this golf day and especially those that donated and sponsored on top of that!
Some interesting and incredible items were auctioned off and we would like to congratulate and thank each of the bidders that walked away with these items!
