The only thing between you and the beach….. …..are 2 triple lanes of the tarmac, and some traffic at times, which is nothing considering the comfort and relaxation you get when you can look out your bedroom window into the blissful and beautiful blue waters of the Indian Ocean!
The Humewood Hotel is the Fair Lady of PE as she has been around since the 1900’s and have seen more faces felt more feet than you and I will care to see and feel in 2 lifetimes combined!
What started off as a 40 room hotel back then, is a fully fledged 68 room, sea facing, and non sea facing, 3 star hotel right on the beach front of the heart of the Port Elizabeth coast line.
Ideal for a couple, small groups, or a large group of golfers, this Hotel has hosted many international guests from all walks of life and boast with many international accolades over the years.
Upon arrival, we were met by incredibly friendly and efficient staff that quickly made work of accompanying us to our car to get our luggage after check in. Settling into our room, we quickly figured out that we were going to stay the night in a vintage building as the walls were so thick, you could easily drop a bomb in your room and no one next door would notice a thing!
The first though that struck me was that we were going to be awakened by the passing traffic during the night.. Did not look forward to that..
However, as we did our site inspection, the general manager, Dave, showed us that as they upgraded the hotel over the years, they replaced the good old wooden windows with aluminum frames, sealed with a rubber so thick that once closed, you can hear almost NOTHING on the outside.
We were astounded at the difference between the windows and sliding doors open, versus when they are closed. That meant piece of mind for me as I could get my beauty sleep without interruptions 🙂
They are currently still busy with upgrades to some of the rooms, but most are already equipped with new carpets, bar fridges, decor, flat screen TV’s and few upgrades in the bathrooms that quite honestly left us astonished for a 3 star establishment.
The Hotel offers an in-house restaurant open for breakfast, and dinner (by prior arrangement), however, there is a fully licensed “pub like” restaurant further down the corridor which is also part of the Hotel.
It offers more space and very suited for a golfing group to enjoy a few drinks after a hard day out on the course, whilst nibbling away on finger snacks or sitting down for a hunger buster meal!
With loads of entertainment, activities to choose from, and a buzzing nightlife, there are a ton of things to do within a few minutes drives from the Hotel. This includes stuff to do for the family, couples and groups of golfing mates wanting to paint the town red.
Being a 2 tier building, there is a small lift for those that feel like taking the stairs, and as mentioned earlier, there are always hands to assist with luggage or any other shopping bags that need to make its way to your room.
The overall hospitality we received left us knowing that we can recommend this establishment to any of our clients, but specifically our larger Golf Tour Groups. This is a great value for money offering that exceeds your expectations of a 3-star Hotel!
