With spectacular mountain views, False Bay and the ocean as a focal point, it is no wonder that Clovelly was one of Bobby Locke’s favourite courses. Golfers of all skill levels will enjoy and be challenged on this well-designed 18-hole course.
A tight par 72 with a testing mix of interesting holes and elevated greens accompanied by beautiful views of Silvermine River and lakes. Natural water features and a wide variety of indigenous fauna and flora, notably the variety of trees lining the fairways.

How old is the golf course: |
It was founded in its current format in 1932 |
Difficulty of course: |
The course is relatively short, but demands accuracy and good course management. It provides opportunity for the average club golfer to enjoy a few good holes while still being able to give the low handicaps a challenge. Due to its geographic location the wind is the main defence. |
Signature hole (s): |
4th hole – Par 4, 15th hole – Par 5 |
Awards / Accolades |
Clovelly has been consistently rated in the top 50 courses in South Africa. It has also been consistently placed in the top 3 18-hole courses in the country for the number of rounds by Handicaps Network Africa, showcasing its popularity. A proud part of Clovelly’s history is that in the 1970s, during apartheid in SA, Clovelly was the first sports club to open its doors to all races, religions and creeds. |
Celebrity Visits: |
Bobby Locke called Clovelly his home away from home when in the Cape. Raymond Ackerman, founder of SA retail store Pick ‘n Pay, has been closely tied to the Club since his father, Gus Ackerman, founded it with his business partner, Mike Pevsner, in 1932. Most recently we have also been visited by Erik Anders- Lang, social media influencer, and Skratch Golf presenter. |
Dress Code: |
Clovelly strives to provide a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere for all members and guests. Therefore the dress code in the Clubhouse is casual. However on the course golfers are expected to wear collared shirts, appropriate pants with a belt, closed shoes. We expect all to dress appropriately to reflect the nature of a club of Clovelly’ stature. Right of Admission reserved. |
Handicap policy: |
It is expected that all golfers who intend to play 18-holes at Clovelly have an official handicap index. |

Dear Mariska
Euan and Seumus are driving back from the most spectacular weekend ever. Not only was the accommodation first class, but the arrangements you made for their golf exceeded all expectations. Could you please convey their thanks and appreciation to the owners of the guest house.
Without a doubt they will be back, we will check when Seumus has university holidays as we are hoping it will coincide with your March programme.
Thank you so much for everything, you lead the pack when it comes to top notch service.

Dear Mariska
We have just returned to London after a wonderful golf holiday on the Garden Route.
As usual your organisation was faultless and the whole holiday was a seamless experience. We are now trying to adjust to freezing temperatures in UK.
Once again thank you for your superbly organised holiday.

viewHi Mariska,
We are back home in UK now, had a great time in SA and everything went well with our golf in the Garden Route, although we managed to change our golf days at Pinnacle Point and George due to ‘torrential downpours’………..much needed I know but it did rain for 5 of the 6 days we were there……though not when we played golf,so all was well.
We will certainly consider using your company again when visiting SA although we might choose different accommodation. The Golf Lodge and Town Lodge were very nice but didn’t quite meet our needs…..but it was all very good value.
Best regards
John
